Maximize Your Landscape with High Impact Shrubs

Table of Contents

In many cases, shrubs are the foundation of any landscape design. Here, you can learn about the plants that are ideal for any Kansas City landscape and that provide superior durability and optimum impact.

    Beautyberry “Pearl Glam”

This plant features stunning dark purple foliage in the spring months, which gives way to pretty little white flowers in the stems in the latter part of the summer. In the fall, the stems become covered with pretty purple berries.

The shrubs will thrive in a location in your yard where there is partial sun, and it will remain compact – just three to four feet tall when mature.

    Boxwood “Chicagoland Green”

This is a glossy, evergreen shrub that is similar to the Green Velvet. However, it has shown signs that it can withstand the winter weather in the Kansas City area much better than the latter.

This plant resembles the English boxwood that hedges well and will be three foot tall and wide when fully mature. However, if you prune it often, you can keep it smaller and more compact.

    Hydrangea “Tiny Tuff Stuff”

Tiny Tuff Stuff is the perfect combination of durability and color, all in a compact size. The lace-cap, delicate blooms range from white, to blue and even pink and they will rebloom – time and time again – throughout the season.

There are some experts who would make the claim that there isn’t a hydrangea on the market today that’s tougher, as this plant often bounces back after a lack of water, neglect and several other obstacles. When fully grown, the size is just 1.5 feet tall and wide, making it a pretty, and compact option for your landscape design.

    Privet “Sunshine”

The Sunshine Privet plant is the ideal plant for creating a hedge. It has beautiful and vivid chartreuse leaves. When fully mature, this version of privet is pretty compact, being just three to five feet tall and three feet wide in size. As a result, this makes it very useful in virtually any garden setting.

It won’t bloom at all, which most allergy sufferers can appreciate, and you can place it anywhere there is partial to full sun.

    Rose “Top Gun”

This is a new plant that was just introduced in 2018. It is extremely tough and provides a prolific blooming, shrub rose. This plant is touted as having a natural resistance to black spot, ruse, mildew and Rose Rosette disease.

While there is no rose that has been completely proven to be immune to Rose Rosette disease, Top Gun shows excellent signs for this. If you are a rose lover and want to be able to avoid using chemicals on your plants, then you will love this rose. Even better, the plant itself is extremely low maintenance.

If you want to create a beautiful landscape design, then using the right high impact hedges is a must. Use one – or several – of the options here to help you create the landscape design you have always wanted along with the landscaping professionals at High Prairie Outdoors.
